Cardboard KnightWhile preparing for the local Box Wars tournament, last year's obsessed runner-up steals the cardboard box that serves as home for a homeless man. With utter determination and no resources, our hobo hero trudges to the tournament where he enters a grand battle for the only thing that's truly his.
A bit of Chaplin, a dash of Braveheart and a whole bagful of goofy geekery. The Hobo is silent, determined but hapless. The Box War tournament is absurd fun, role-playing with a sense of humor, except for a single contestant who has stolen our Hobo's box. His life center's around avenging last year's disqualification, so much so that he obsessively takes any cardboard he sees in the pursuit of the perfect armor and weaponry. While it's a comedy, the audience will hopefully pull for the underdog and have a nice payoff during the final battle.
The script is finished, pending the typical polishing and tightening. We are in pre-production, designing and building lots of cardboard armor.
Cardboard, cardboard, cardboard. Anyone who thinks it would be fun to dress up in cardboard armor and beat the snot out other people, within reason and as needed under direction and occasional choreography. The final melee will be staged with great grandeur and utter sincerity, stealing pretty liberally from Henry V, Braveheart and other such grand battle films. So we will need anyone, on the appointed date to be named, to do battle, or cheer said battle. We'd like plan an entire day for the battle with a second day possibly need for pick-ups as necessary. Anyone with stage fighting or choreography would be greatly appreciated.
We'd also need tons and tons and tons of cardboard armor, weapons and whatnot. Anyone who thinks this sounds like great fun (and you know who you are, don't be ashamed!) is welcomed. Check out some of these folks at http://www.boxwars.net/ and you'll see that the designs can be pretty elaborate. Anyone so inclined could go NUTS, the bigger the better. We'll need tons of cardboard, people who can build with said cardboard, and people who will battle in said cardboard. I you can build a life-sized replica of the Starship enterprise made completely out of boxes, you're our kind of hero. Here are some links to armor-building plans so if anyone is so moved to work independently, have at it!
